FIORELLA MATEO’S JOURNEY OF HEALING For the next 17 years, Fiorella’s agony steadily worsened. The headaches became constant, robbing her of the ability to study, participate in daily activities, or simply enjoy life. Eventually, she was taken to see a neurosurgeon, who diagnosed her with cranial hypertension, excess fluid in the brain that leads to increased pressure and headaches. To make matters worse, she had glaucoma, which caused blurry vision. “I could no longer focus, study, or engage in daily tasks without pain. I couldn’t participate in sports or any strenuous activities,”. Fiorella says. The thought of spending the rest of her life dependent on ineffective medication was devastating.
